You are the weapon

The world of self defense is violent by nature; no sport martial art here. If a person is really attacking you and you have to defend your self at that point it's not some game. Your existence could quite possibly hang in the end result of precisely what you will conduct to take out your assailant. To that conclusion, numerous martial arts never train with weapons or weapons disarms. If you are actually in amongst these arts you may perhaps choose to get some outside assistance to gain the abilities in order to defend yourself from commonplace weapons which can possibly be used against you on the street. These fall into three classifications, generally speaking: firearms, knives, and sticks (clubs or baseball bats). The following is simply the quick list of strategy for each.

Guns: you close the gap between you and them so that the reaction time from attack to pull the trigger is in your favor. You see, with respect to the aggressor to pull the trigger he: first must recognize he is certainly under attack. Second this individual must pinpoint precisely where you are going (path). Third he must understand where he or she is; that is, exactly where the firearm is actually pointed plus his or her physical position. Next this individual must figure out what program to put into play. At this moment is precisely where he/she might conclude they have to turn left, raise the firearm a lot higher, and fire. Finally he/she has to implement the program. This all requires mental time and through closing the distance you have indeed reduced their successful response time down as well as in to your favor.

Blades and sticks ... you want to open the gap from your attacker. You want these people to make a long distance and also committed attack towards you. This brings you in a favorable position as they must move a long way to get you. You have the time to view the attack, choose what to do and execute the plan. You likewise reduce their response time down as you close in to disarm or attack. Just like in the firearm situation you have indeed shortened their perception along with reaction time.

Also critical in self defence that you do not play around. You need to disable your adversary so that they can not come back to harm you. What I mean right here is you do not want them coming back up off the ground and being rather psychotic at you. You must ensure they don't want to go on with the violence.

If you learn to disarm weapons you ought to also study ways to employ that weapon if necessary. You might learn how to shoot or at least how you might use that weapon to your benefit. There is a weapon known as a defender (self defense weapon) which is a small plastic, oddly shaped, weapon which is utilized on pressure points. You can view this at PDWS. biz. You can use most anything you pick up like a defender and that includes a firearm. A gun can be used on pressure points about the body as well as against boney places of the body, just like a defender or even a Kubotan.

In conclusion, you're the weapon and anything that gets into your hands you need to realize how to make use of it. Gun, knife or sticks ... you must know how to use them for your own protection or the protection of your loved ones. There are great videos to had on these subjects, all found on the web. So I encourage my fellow artists to broaden their skill sets in martial arts and turn them into self defense skill sets too!

When it comes to home security vendors, you need to choose one that’s reliable and that uses quality home security systems. While there are many vendors out there who’ll sell you a discount system, do you really want to take the risk that it will fail just when you need it?

That’s one of the compelling arguments for choosing Protect Your Home. This particular home security company has a distinct advantage in the areas of reliability and quality.

Built on proven ADT technology

The security systems used by Protect Your Home are built by ADT. ADT has a proven track record for more than a century of keeping families, homes, and businesses safe and secure. ADT uses some of the most advanced technology to keep an eye on your home, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

Using ADT equipment means advanced security system options such as mobile remote control, and even remote video viewing of your home security cameras.

Is Protect Your Home better than any other ADT dealer?

Protect Your Home doesn’t only deal in ADT systems, they are the number one ADT dealer in the country. That means they have significant experience and expertise in getting your home security systems installed.

It also means they’re experts at identifying just what you might need in a security system. They’ll help design the system that gives you the right coverage for your home.

Protect Your Home pricing

Cost is an important consideration in choosing your home security system, of course. Like other home security services, Protect Your Home offers a significant discount on your purchase of equipment when you sign up for a monthly service plan.

The basic plan from Protect Your Home includes the following ADT equipment:

    * Premium digital touchpad. This touchpad has an LCD display. It offers a chime to let you know when doors or windows are being used. It has a bypass system, one-touch communication with emergency dispatch, and two-way communication with the security central station.
    * A wireless keychain remote control. This lets you disarm or arm your system remotely. It also includes a panic button, alerting others to trouble.
    * Two door and window sensors. You’ll probably need to add more sensors, and these will come at an additional cost.
    * Motion detector. This motion detector uses infrared technology, and it’s built to be sensitive to pets – thereby reducing false alarms.
    * Indoor siren. The indoor sounder notifies you of an intrusion.
    * Yard sign and decals for your windows. These will often be enough to deter would-be criminals.
    * Power supply and 24-hour battery. This means your home is protected even when the power goes out.

The entire package is free; you pay $99 for installation, and you have to sign up for monitoring, which runs around $35 per month – like most other services.

The right choice for reliability

Protect Your Home is probably one of the best companies to go through to get a high-quality ADT system. Pricing is comparable to other security system vendors, and they have a decent reputation for service, too. If you’re looking at an ADT system, look into Protect Your Home.

Back To Basics

I ran across this article and it fits with the core of this blog. Home Self Defence or defense depending where you are is very important and we need to start embracing the problem. Home invasion is an ugly topic but we need to prepare!  I hope you enjoy...

Back To Basics:
From Start To Finish

“All the world’s a stage, and all the men and women merely players: They have their exits and their entrances; and one man in his time plays many parts, his acts being seven ages, at first the infant, mewling and puking in the nurses arms. And then the whining school-boy, with his satchel and shining morning face, creeping like snail unwillingly to school. And then the lover, sighing like furnace, with a woeful ballad made to his mistress’ eyebrow. Then a soldier, full of strange oaths and bearded like the pard, jealous in honor, sudden and quick in quarrel, seeking the bubble reputation even in the cannon’s mouth. And then the justice, in fair round belly with good capon lined, with eyes severe and beard of formal cut, full of wise saws and modern instances; and so he plays his part. The sixth age shifts into the lean and slipper’d pantaloons, with spectacles on nose and pouch on side, his youthful hose, well saved, a world too wide for his shrunk shank; and his big manly voice, turning again toward childish treble, pipes and whistles in his sound. Last scene of all, that ends this strange eventful history is second childishness and mere oblivion, sans teeth, sans eyes, sans taste, sans everything.”

So spoke William Shakespeare in As You Like It, written in the 16th century. I don’t know if any students still read Shakespeare, however I was in stage two, the “whining schoolboy” when I encountered Shakespeare in the 8th and 9th grade. As I recall I didn’t understand much of it but this passage hit me from the very beginning, and even though it was way back in 1952, I still recall, it vividly, and thought at the time Shakespeare is a pretty wise old fellow. Seven ages most of us follow: baby, youth, young lover, invincibility, wisdom, old age, and then right back to the helplessness stage we endured as a young baby. It wasn’t hard for me to look around at my extended family and see someone in every act, and I don’t like to even contemplate the act I am now in.

Shooters also spend their time on a stage as it were following through many acts. In fact, in many cases, certainly mine I have gone through acts/stages/ages of sixgunning with some overlapping. Usually, the best place to begin a journey is at the beginning, and the beginning of shooting, the place to learn all the basics, is a .22. It was 1956 and Act I was about to begin.

My first choice was a Marlin 39A, the Mountie which was then followed very quickly by a Ruger Single-Six which is now known to collectors as the Flat-Gate.

I’ve received a lot of pleasure from a lot of guns over the years but nothing has ever superseded these two .22s. I wouldn’t even try to count the number of rounds down the barrels of these two. Not only did I learn to shoot with it, so did Diamond Dot, the three kids, the grandkids, two of their spouses, and even girlfriends and boyfriends along the way. The .22 is simply the best place to start and we can learn everything about shooting without having to consider recoil. With a .22 shooting is as much fun as it should be and the cost is minimal. My infancy, unlike Shakespeare’s baby was not spent in a nurse’s arms, but rather lovingly clutching a .22 Levergun and sixgun.

Act II found me discovering big-bore sixguns. First came a 1900-ish 4-3/4″ Colt Single Action .38-40 which was soon followed by a very early Second Generation Colt .45 with a 7-1/2″ barrel. I could not afford to shoot either one of them very much, so the next scene in this act found me with a Ruger .357 Blackhawk and a S&W .357 Highway Patrolman. It was very difficult to find .357 brass in those days, however .38 Special cases where not only easy to find they were quite inexpensive.

The purchase of a Lyman mold which dropped Elmer Keith’s 358429 classic bullet design at 173 grains put me in business. I was not real smart in those days and loaded all of my .38s to the hilt with the Keith load. This resulted in .38s which were hotter than much .357 Magnum factory ammunition offered today. My progress would probably have been faster if at least some of those were standard .38 Special loads.

Act III found me with .44 Specials and .45 Colts. By now I was reloading enough I could afford to shoot my .45, however I made the same mistake with the .44 Specials I’d made with those first .38 Special loads; everything was loaded “Keith-style” with a 260-grain bullet at 1,150 to 1,200 fps which hampered my learning even more than the hot .38 Specials. Even the .45s received heavy treatment with 260s over 10.0 grains of Unique or 18.5 grains of 2400. I had a great time with those heavy loads in the .44 and .45, however I missed an awful lot of fun shooting and slowed down my learning time.

Going all the way back to 1949, the original Ruger .22 is

still a good starter or finisher.

Magnum Era

Act IV found me in my Magnum Era. By now, I had not only discovered the excellent Lyman/Thompson 358156GC bullet it also it had become increasingly easier to locate .357 Magnum brass. That gas-checked bullet minimized leading allowing hard cast bullets to be driven over 1,500 fps. The nice thing about the .357 Magnum is its relative lack of recoil in full-size sixguns. Unfortunately, the same can’t be said for the .44 Magnum.

My first .44 Magnum was an original 6-1/2″ Ruger Blackhawk followed in the early 1960s with a Smith & Wesson Model 29 of the same barrel length. I still have both sixguns, however they languished unused for many a year since I wasn’t smart enough to back off from full house loads. Some folks just take longer to learn than others and I missed the main positive attribute of reloading which is to custom tailor loads. There is nothing written anywhere in stone or otherwise which says we have to load everything to the max.

Act V basically covers my Really Big Bore years stretching from about mid 1980s until the turn of the century. First came the .454 Casull, followed by the .500 Linebaugh in short order. Over the years I added the .475 Linebaugh, .500 Wyoming Express, some really tough time with the .475 and .500 Linebaugh Long/Maximums and then came the arrival of the .500 and .460 Smith & Wesson Magnums. With the arrival of these really Big Bores, I learned very quickly to tailor my loads. None of these cartridges can be considered fun to shoot in their full-house loadings, however the arrival of Hodgdon’s Trail Boss powder made pleasant shooting loads a real possibility and actually makes these guns pleasurable.

By the time I arrived at Act VI, I realized Magnums do not have to always be maximized. A .44 Magnum with a 260- or 300-grain cast bullet over 10.0 grains of Unique or Universal will do right at 1,150 fps; this is a powerful but relatively pleasant shooting load plus the extra added bonus is you can get twice as many rounds from a can of powder. Act VII, where I spend most of my time these years is back to the .44 Special and .45 Colt. However, by now I’ve learned. The .44 Special is mostly loaded with a 260-grain bullet over 7.5 grains of Unique or Universal, or 8.0 grains of Power Pistol. With the .45 Colt it is a 260- or 270-grain bullet mostly over 8.0 grains of either Unique or Universal. All of these loads are in the 900 to 1,000 fps range and adequately powerful while remaining relatively low in felt recoil.

It’s been a long stage play, however I have learned much along the way. Shakespeare puts his actor back at the beginning. While I am not in as bad a shape as his main character (yet), I do find myself spending much more time with the basics—the basic .22 that is. Actually my shooting life these days is pretty much a mixture of several of the Sixgunning Acts. Early this month I spent four days shooting 1,000 rounds of .45 Auto Rim, and later this week I will start the same process with some .44 Specials.

However, the basic .22 is once again King. I spent much of last winter looking for older 3-Screw Ruger Single-Sixes and Super Single-Sixes. I not only wanted to make sure I have enough on hand for everyone in the family to have their own, I simply wanted to enjoy the pure pleasure of shooting them myself. Ten days were spent doing nothing but shooting .22s and although it is a very trite phrase, it really doesn’t get any better than this. I have come home.

Three men allegedly posing as FBI agents robbed a home in Burbank. Police said they made off with thousands of dollars in cash.

The incident happened on the 1000 block of Fairmount Road, just south of DeBell Golf Club.
Police said the suspects were wearing ski masks and had badges identifying themselves as FBI agents when they barged into the home after midnight Wednesday.

When they got inside, the suspects made the man, wife and teenage son get down on the ground. Then, they demanded cash and forced the wife to show them where it was
It appeared the robbers knew what they were looking for. Authorities said the men went straight for a briefcase that contained possibly up to $20,000. They also grabbed some jewelry. The suspects took off on foot.
"To pick a house out of nowhere, it just raises suspicious with the police department," said Burbank police Sgt. Robert Quesada.

A person inside the home was slightly injured by one of the suspects but is expected to be OK.
Neighbors in this quiet community can't believe it happened here.
"This is very concerning. I was just texting my friend that you're really never safe anywhere," said neighbor Don Valenciano.

Burbank police do not have a lot to work with as the suspects hid their faces with masks. Authorities do believe that the men were in their 20s. The incident remained under investigation.
Police are hoping someone in the neighborhood saw something but many slept through the robbery. Residents said they will now take extra precautions.

"You check your windows once or twice. I'm glad I have a dog here," said a neighbor. "It's a little wake-up call for everybody here."

Anyone with information was asked to call Burbank police at

Can you really learn to defend yourself by using a DVD?

The short answer is YES!

In the early days of “long distance learning” much of what was put out was very substandard and in some cases down right disgusting. Historically this lead the general public to be very hesitant to purchase video tapes from martial artists who didn’t understand how to produce a good video product. This gradually started to change but then there was a rush to sell all kinds of martial arts.

Many of the martial arts that were sold on the web were just sport arts masquerading as a combat art. The general public had no idea that learning a kata or set of martial arts moves wouldn’t save their life. Great exercise as such but of little real value in combat. Now days, I would have to say 90 percent of what is on the market is made farley well but still the real question is the value to a real combat situation.

Training defence has to be approached on several levels. The first one is the nature of the DVD you are purchasing. Is it really good for combat or is it a sport art claiming to be a combat art? Even mixed martial arts isn’t a combat art, it’s a sport. You have no business being on the ground in a submission hold, when you are in a combat situation. You need to dispatch your opponent as fast as possible. You need to disarm them and take their weapons from them, and very possibly, use it on them and or their criminal friends invading your home.

Personal defence classes can be taught via a good DVD. As mentioned above the subject matter is very important but also is the construction of the DVD. With the development of the long distance learning structure many of today’s DVD’s are of excellent quality. I personal develop mine with a very distinct structure in mind. I let you see the technique at full speed, and then I do a stop frame action at each important point, and then show you in slow motion, then twice more at regular speed. This is how I did the USMC martial arts program disks. It’s an excellent way to teach technique and keep everyone on the same page. However, this technique isn’t the only good long distance learning technique. I’m sure there are others out there that can produce equal results; I just have not seen them.

Self defense for women class or class’s should also be done in this fashion. It comes down to it that both the subject matter and the design of the long distance learning media must be in synch and appropriate for your needs. You must do a good Google search on the author of the media to prove to yourself that the material you are going to learn will in fact be helpful to you in a combat situation, easy to learn, and that you have a money back guarantee if you don’t like the quality of the material or the subject matter its self. These are very important things to remember when you purchase DVDs for long distance learning.

On closing, it’s really important to choose the right material to study for your training defence. What you need to understand is that in a home invasion or if you get attacked on the street, you usually only get one shot at being right with your techniques and thus to save your life you have to take this very seriously. You won’t usually get a second chance to save your life. Therefore, the subject matter is crucial and so is the construction of the long distance learning media. So, when you go out on the web and purchase, do your homework and find the material you need and a good DVD to help you learn it. And above all things, get a money back guarantee!

Girl, boyfriend charged with killing her parents; bodies found in shallow graves in Norwalk, Long Beach

Yet here is another home invasion.. this time one victim at a time. One at home and the other one when they came home. Rules of engagement should be worked on, plans made, and home self defence training set up...

Master Peter Brusso

Girl, boyfriend charged with killing her parents; bodies found in shallow graves in Norwalk, Long Beach: From the Associated Press:

A teenage couple from Compton have been charged with killing the girl's parents and burying them in shallow graves in Norwalk and Long Beach.
Los Angeles County prosecutors say 15-year-old girl Cynthia Alvarez and 16-year-old Giovanni Gallardo were charged Friday as adults with counts of murder with special circumstances.
They're jailed and face life in prison if convicted.
Prosecutors say they killed the girl's mother, 58-year-old Gloria Villalta, last week in her Compton home, hid the body and then stabbed and beat her stepfather with a bat when 51-year-old Jose Lara came home.
The mother was found buried Saturday in vacant lot in Norwalk. Lara was uncovered Thursday in Long Beach.
Prosecutors say the killings were prompted by friction between the girl and her parents, partly over her relationship with Gallardo.

Coroner rules Walnut man's death a homicide

Ok people.. there are becoming so many of these its not funny. I have been writing, blogging, and talking up a storm on this trend of home invasion. The rules of engagement must be worked out, a plan for your families safety, and weapons plus training has to happen or you can end up like this poor family. At least purchase and learn the defenders, self defense weapon and have them handy. Don't wait for life to give you this lesson before you get a chance to study the lesson plan. Do it today and make a commitment to purchase a Self Defense Weapon, start reading at the site about the rules of engagement, and get a plan together.

Coroner rules Walnut man's death a homicide: WALNUT -- A man found fatally stabbed at his Walnut home Wednesday, where his estranged wife was also found stabbed and badly wounded, was killed, coroner's officials said.
George Mora, 47, died from stab wounds and an autopsy ruled the death to be a homicide, Los Angeles County Coroner's officials said.
Sheriff's investigators have said they're still investigating what took place between the couple at the home in the 21600 block of Brookside Court, and it was unclear who may have been the aggressor in the domestic attack.
As of Friday, detectives had not been able to speak with the injured woman, 43-year-old Socorra Mora, due to her medical condition, Lt. Matt Burson of the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Homicide Bureau said.
It remained unclear Saturday how Socorra Mora suffered her stab wounds.

Off-duty deputy shoots burglary suspects in Cerritos

This isn't the first time I have heard of tented house robberies but this is a wonderful outcome! A bit off topic but still a house invasion story. It turns out, and I didn't know this before, that when you tent a house you have to put the address up on the web showing the public that there is poison being used at a particular address and stay away. Well, crooks know where to look for these addresses and go put on a mask then help themselves to your stuff. Brilliant, so if you have your house tented, best to camp out on the property, if possible, and protect your home. Home self defence comes with a price tag. I hope you enjoy this article... Master Peter Brusso
